Lifeguard Association Membership

Become a member of the Los Angeles City Lifeguard Association (LACLA) today! We have membership classes for open water lifeguards, pool lifeguards, and anyone else who wants to help support our non-profit association! See below for details on each membership class and the various benefits of joining the association.

Benefits of Professional Membership (Open Water Lifeguards Only):

Professional Member
LACLA/USLA is open to Los Angeles City Open Water Lifeguards who are trained for and work a minimum of 8 hours per calendar year in an open water environment. Open Water Lifeguards who join USLA must join LACLA as well (By Laws: Article III, Section 2.1). *Once you sign up for LACLA membership, you must follow the instructions below to complete your USLA signup, which requires paying separately! Scroll down for the instructions.

Associate Member
Associate members include Pool Lifeguards and others who need not be lifesaving personnel. L.A. City Pool Lifeguards may compete in any and all pool competitions, other non-lifesaving Associate members may not compete in lifeguard competitions. Associate members may participate at all general membership meetings and may vote on any issues other than those pertaining to USLA/CSLSA issues. Associate members may not be elected or serve on the Executive Board, but may participate in any other capacity or activity of the Association.

Additional Notes: Associate members receive all benefits of the Association except those provided by CSLSA and USLA. Specifically, CSLSA and USLA benefits include membership kits from both organizations, “American Lifeguard Magazine” and “Cal Surf News”, and the opportunity to participate in beach competitions sponsored by those associations (CSLSA Regional Lifeguard Championships and USLA National Lifeguard Championships). There are pool lifeguard competitions for our associate members.

***USLA By Laws require all members to be a member of their local chapter. You must join LACLA in order to join USLA and meet this requirement.

*INSTRUCTIONS FOR JOINING USLA OR RENEWING USLA MEMBERSHIP
The following steps must be completed AFTER you have signed up for LACLA above.

(1) Go to USLA.ORG

(2) Click on drop down menu – MEMBERSHIP BENEFITS

(3) Click on MEMBERSHIP RENEWAL or JOIN NOW – INDIVIDUALS

(4) Follow prompts to join or renew. You must pay online with a credit card or e-check to join USLA or renew your membership. Current USLA dues amount is $30. Reminder – your USLA Region is SOUTHWEST (CSLSA); your chapter is LOS ANGELES CITY.

(5) Once you have paid you will receive a confirmation via email. Forward that confirmation immediately to the LACLA Vice President / Membership Chairperson Dawn Kelly: dawnamanda@gmail.com

(6) When your confirmation has been received by the Membership Chair and your $15 payment to LACLA has been confirmed with the Treasurer, your LACLA and CSLSA membership kits will be issued as soon as available.
