Open Water Lifeguard Competition

Each year, Los Angeles City Lifeguard Association members compete at various lifeguard competitions around the country. The main two competitions are the National Lifeguard Competition, put on by the United States Lifesaving Association (USLA) and the Regional Lifeguard Competition, put on by the California Surf Lifesaving Association (CSLSA). Additional competitions include paddle races, lifeguard endurance races, marathons, triathlons, dory races, and more. See below for a list of annual competitions that our lifeguards participate in. Location: Cabrillo Beach
Lifeguards from the different Los Angeles City Open Water facilities compete in various beach events.

Location: Various Southern California Beaches (2012 Location: Newport Beach, CA)
Lifeguards from agencies up and down the coast of California compete in various beach events.

USLA Nationals
Location: Various Beaches from coast to coast (2011 Location: Cape May, New Jersey)
Lifeguards from the different agencies throughout the United States compete in various beach events.

Mega Colossus
Location: Huntington State Beach
4 Swims, 5 Runs, No Prizes, No Awards, Just a True Lifeguard Endurance Event.

Angels Gate Lighthouse Swim
Location: Cabrillo Beach
Swimmers get dropped off at the L.A. lighthouse, and swim 2.5 miles to outer Cabrillo Beach.

Cold Hands Paddle
Location: Cabrillo Beach
A competitive wintertime ocean paddle race from Outer Cabrillo Beach to Inner Cabrillo Beach.

Rock 2 Rock Paddleboard Race
Location: Two Harbors, Catalina Island to Cabrillo Beach
A challenging 22 mile course starting from the Isthmus on Catalina Island and finishing at Cabrillo Beach in San Pedro.
